Red Light — The Anti-Aging Wavelength
Red light at 630–660nm penetrates into the dermis and is absorbed by fibroblasts — the skin's collagen-producing cells. The mechanism is well-established: red LED exposure increases ATP production in fibroblasts, upregulating collagen and elastin synthesis. The result is firmer, smoother skin with reduced fine line depth. Red light also reduces inflammation, accelerating blemish healing. Use 3–5 times per week for 4–6 weeks to see measurable results.
Blue Light — The Acne Wavelength
Blue light at 415nm targets porphyrins — metabolic byproducts produced by acne-causing P. acnes bacteria. When activated by blue light, porphyrins generate reactive oxygen species that destroy the bacteria's cell membrane. No antibiotics. No drying agents. No resistance. Blue light therapy is appropriate for all Fitzpatrick skin types and can be used daily without skin barrier compromise.
Near-Infrared — The Deep-Penetration Wavelength
Near-infrared (NIR) at 830–1072nm is invisible to the eye but among the most therapeutically active wavelengths. It penetrates below the skin into deeper tissue, stimulating mitochondrial activity and reducing chronic inflammation at a structural level. NIR is the wavelength that makes other treatments work more effectively — by energising the cells that red and blue light target.
