This digital ear and forehead thermometer takes body temperature in the ear (tympanic) or on the forehead in under one second, and has a separate object mode for bottles, bath water and rooms. Before any reading, keep the person and the thermometer in the same room for at least 30 minutes.

A thermometer reading is not a diagnosis. A baby under 6 months with a fever should see a doctor, and under 3 months urgently (Canadian Paediatric Society). Seek medical advice promptly for a rising temperature in anyone over 60, with a weakened immune system, or bedridden.

Each part of the body has its own normal range. According to the manual, this infrared thermometer reads about 0.5 °C (0.9 °F) lower than a rectal digital thermometer. Compare each reading with the normal range for the site you measured.
The ear and forehead have different normal ranges (35.8–38.0 °C and 36.1–37.5 °C), so their readings are not expected to match. Track a fever with one site and one ear.

After each use, clean the probe and casing with an alcohol swab or a cotton swab moistened with 75% alcohol, then wait at least 10 minutes for it to dry before the next reading. Never use abrasive cleaners or put the thermometer in water. Store it in its pouch somewhere dry, between 10 and 40 °C and out of direct sun.
